Discovery Land Company, the world’s leading developer of luxury private residential communities, clubs and resorts, has announced its 23rd property and first in Europe. CostaTerra, located in the beautiful region of Comporta along Portugal’s Blue Coast, will celebrate the rich cultural history of the region and enhance the natural beauty of the Southern coastline with Discovery’s signature, sustainable approach to development, which focuses on respectful, environmentally conscious planning. Situated on 292 hectares of land with nearly one mile of beachfront, CostaTerra is located just over one hour from Lisbon and its international airport. The property includes 91 hectares of preserved land, with the entire property ideally positioned in the heart of the Alentejo coast.

Discovery Land Company’s communities are designed to provide best-in-class residences, amenities and services with a focus on families spending quality time together. At CostaTerra, Discovery will work alongside the surrounding community to collaborate on cultural and outdoors activities while adding equity to the region. Working with the Natura 2000 Program, the property will protect the pristine coastline and preserve the wild pine forests, dramatic ancient dunes and colorful heartland.

“We have looked at a number of opportunities in Europe for many years now,” said Michael Meldman, founder and CEO of Discovery Land Company. “We are so fortunate to have found this exceptional area in Portugal and to work with the Queiroz Pereira family on this project which is a piece of paradise. We look forward to providing a high-quality experience for our guests while preserving the sacredness of this incredible environment.”

CostaTerra will feature an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Tom Fazio, whose signature design seamlessly blends courses into their natural surroundings. The heart of the community village will include fitness, spa, sports and retail facilities, golf club facilities and several options for dining, including eateries that celebrate local agriculture and the Alentejo wine region. All dining options will utilize the local bounty of the land and sea, as is customary for all Discovery properties. There are also plans to develop a small luxury hotel, which is part of an expanding collection of Discovery branded boutique hotels.

Discovery’s Outdoor Pursuits Program will draw upon the local culture as well, offering sailing, boating with tours of the Portuguese coast, surfing and other water sports, hiking and horseback riding, including an on-site equestrian center offering tours of the ancient dunes along the Blue Coast, castle ruins and other areas of historical significance. CostaTerra is a perfect fit for Discovery because of the warm and inclusive nature of the Portuguese.

CostaTerra will offer residential villas, cottages as well as amenity-driven, world-class resort hotels.
